【摘要】:Thistestmethodcovers,inapreliminaryfashion,thedifferentiationamongsimilarmaterialswithrespecttotheirresistancetotheactionofahigh-voltage,low-currentarcclosetothesurfaceofinsulation,intendingtoformaconductingpaththereinorincausingthematerialtobecomeconductingduetothelocalizedthermalandchemicaldecompositionanderosion.Theusefulnessofthistestmethodisveryseverelylimitedbymanyrestrictionsandqualifications,someofwhicharedescribedinthefollowingparagraphsandinSection.Generally,thistestmethodshouldnotbeusedinmaterialspecifications.Wheneverpossible,alternativetestmethodsshouldbeused,andtheirdevelopmentisencouraged.Thistestmethodwillnot,ingeneral,permitconclusionstobedrawnconcerningtherelativearcresistancerankingsofmaterialsthatmaybesubjectedtoothertypesofarcs:forexample,highvoltageathighcurrents,andlowvoltageatloworhighcurrents(promotedbysurgesorbyconductingcontaminants).Thetestmethodisintended,becauseofitsconvenienceandtheshorttimerequiredfortesting,forpreliminaryscreeningofmaterial,fordetectingtheeffectsofchangesinformulation,andforqualitycontroltestingaftercorrelationhasbeenestablishedwithothertypesofsimulatedservicearctestsandfieldexperience.Becausethistestmethodisusuallyconductedundercleananddrylaboratoryconditionsrarelyencounteredinpractice,thepredictionofamaterial'srelativeperformanceintypicalapplicationsandinvarying"cleantodirty"environmentsmaybesubstantiallyaltered(Note0).Cautionisurgedagainstdrawingstrongconclusionswithoutcorroboratingsupportofsimulatedservicetestsandfieldtesting.Rather,thistestmethodisusefulforpreliminaryevaluationofchangesinstructureandcompositionwithoutthecomplicatinginfluenceofenvironmentalconditions,especiallydirtandmoisture.Bychangingsomeofthecircuitconditionsdescribedhereinithasbeenfoundpossibletorearrangemarkedlytheorderofarcresistanceofagroupoforganicinsulatingmaterialsconsistingofvulcanizedfiberandofmoldedphenolicandaminoplastics,somecontainingorganic,andsomeinorganic,filler.Whilethistestmethodusesdry,uncontaminatedspecimensurfaces,TestMethodD2132,TestMethodsD2303,andTestMethodD3638employwet,contaminatedspecimensurfaces.Theiruseisrecommendedforengineeringpurposesandtoassistinestablishingsomedegreeofsignificancetothistestmethodforqualitycontrolpurposes.Thistestmethodisnotapplicabletomaterialsthatdonotproduceconductivepathsundertheactionofanelectricarc,orthatmeltorformfluidresiduesthatfloatconductiveresiduesoutoftheactivetestareatherebypreventingformationofaconductivepath.Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificprecautionarystatements,see,,Section,and.
